An outdoor exercise class scheme launched last year by Hailsham Active has expanded its offerings allowing residents to shed some of those extra lockdown pounds.
In partnership with Hailsham Town Council and ‘Our Parks’, the classes held at the Western Road Recreation Ground continue to benefit local people, inspiring the community to get active and improve their health.
Launched in April 2018, Hailsham Active has provided easy access to low-impact exercise on Saturday mornings for people of all ages. The group has now increased the number of sessions it operates and currently runs sessions at the Western Road Recreation Ground (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6.30pm to 7.30pm / Saturdays 8am to 9am and 9am to 10am), and Herstmonceux Recreation Ground (Wednesdays and Fridays, 6.30pm to 7.30pm).
An additional exercise class is available at 10am on Saturdays at the Western Road Recreation Ground if pre-booked. The same applies for personal training sessions.
Exercise sessions are led by experienced, fully qualified and insured instructors and include a range of classes such as yoga, pilates, back-to-exercise and gentle exercise. No bookings are required – just turn up and take part.
Social distancing measures are implemented during all exercise sessions and hand sanitiser is provided.
At present, no equipment is used during the exercise sessions. However, when they are introduced, cleaning spray and wipes will be provided and all equipment thoroughly cleaned before and after each class.
Exercise classes are free of charge for the first/trial session. Thereafter, a voluntary contribution of £3 per session will be introduced.
Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook, who encourages local residents to take advantage of the many recreational and sports opportunities offered within the town, said: “It is wonderful news that the Town Council and Hailsham Active have been able to work with the community to deliver and expand provision of easy access exercises classes.”
