Hailsham residents aired their anger over the High Street improvement project at the town’s annual meeting last week (25 April).
Officials from East Sussex Highways braved the top table at the meeting which heard from a number of attendee’s over their concerns of the deteriorating raised speed bumps in the town centre.
Hailsham News and Talk confirmed in April contractors will be paying for the repairs to the High Street – this was confirmed at the meeting and it was said an urgent way forward to repair the works is underway.
The panel were also challenged over potholes in Hailsham. Some residents were concerned large holes still remained un-repaired and were a danger to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Other issues were raised such as local healthcare facilities, Hailsham Street Market and increased housing during the meeting.
There was frustration after a local Police Inspector attended to answer questions following a spate of crime in the town late last year, However, only one question was asked despite the community being invited to take part in the meeting.
Town Clerk John Harrison said: “In summary of the past year, there have been some challenging times to which the Town Council has responded with a positive outlook, hard work and commitment from members and staff.”
“The Annual Town Meeting provided an opportunity for people to participate in discussion on town issues and local services.”
