A sick seal was dramatically rescued from Bexhill Beach on Thursday evening.
East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (East Sussex WRAS) were called to the scene to save the common seal.
In a statement posted on the organisation’s Facebook page, they wrote:
“East Sussex WRAS were called out by British Divers Marine Life Rescue this evening to a 38.5kg common seal on the eastern end of Bexhill beach.
“Local medics were concerned about the seal so BDMLR’s Operation Director Julia Cable attended and quickly realised she would need extra experienced help to catch the seal.
“WRAS’s Operations Director and BDMLR Medic Trevor Weeks attended in one of WRAS’s technical rescue ambulances and working as a team with everyone from BDMLR, Trevor secured the seal.
“Once in a crate the seal was carried on a stretcher to BDMLR’s ambulance where it was transported over to and admitted into the care of RSPCA Mallydams Wood.”
