DEVASTATED DJ Zoe Ball, who hosts the Radio 2 breakfast show, has paid tribute to her colleague Steve Wright who died on Tuesday (February 13).
Mr Wright who passed away at the age of 69 enjoyed a stellar career with the BBC, built up a hugely-successful career with the broadcaster and presented a regular Sunday show which proved popular with listeners having previously hosted several other shows for the BBC.
In a heartfelt post Zoe, who lives in Sussex, said on social media: “Wrighty, your radio friend, our inspiration, master of broadcasting, the Godfather, always there for us all with support, advice, love & most importantly laughter rest well you wonderful magic man.
“Life won’t be the same without you here love you my friend my hero.”

Her words of condolence were echoed by fellow DJ Sara Cox, who said on her drive-time show on Tuesday afternoon, and she fought back tears: “It is really hard to know what to say about the news of Steve’s passing, except we are all absolutely devastated, shocked, and blindsided by the news.
“Steve was an extraordinary broadcaster, a really kind person. He was witty, he was warm and he was a huge part of the Radio 2 family.
“I know my fellow DJs will all be absolutely shattered by this news as well.”
TV host Piers Morgan, who grew up in East Sussex, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “RIP Steve Wright, 69.
“One of Britain’s greatest ever radio broadcasters. A brilliantly creative, funny, warm, intelligent, hard-working & energetic man.
“Absolutely loved him, on and off air. So sad to hear this news. Thanks for all the wonderful entertainment, Steve.”
