Update: Police tracks down car that smashed through level crossing barriers in Berwick

A CAR that smashed through level crossing barriers in Berwick has been located by police.

The incident happened yesterday (May 16) shortly before 11.30am.

The road either side of Berwick railway station remains closed today after the car collided with the level crossing barriers.

The vehicle, a blue Alfa Romeo Stelvio V6, was being pursued northbound by police as it was believed to be stolen and on cloned plates.

Following the collision, it made off from the scene without stopping, and it was later located abandoned in Paynsbridge Way, Horam.

The vehicle has since been recovered for forensic examination.

Anyone with any information about the incident, including any dash cam or CCTV, is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 481 of 16/05.
