World War II pillbox vandalised and set alight

A WORLD War II pillbox has been vandalised and set alight.

The structure is located in Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Rother Police has issued an appeal on their Facebook page seeking information regarding the incident.

They wrote on their Facebook page yesterday December 7: “Sadly, the WWII Pillbox at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has been damaged.

“The WWII Pillbox has been daubed in graffiti, and subsequently, a number of aerosol spray cans were then set alight within the structure.
“Although an exact date of the damage can’t be established, it is believed to have occurred sometime before 02/12/2023.

“Did you see or hear anything, do you have any information that could assist us with finding the culprits?
“If so please contact us either online or call 101 quoting reference 1020 03/12/2023.”
